Donald Trump Speaks at Las Vegas Restaurant Rally

Former president and returning presidential candidate Donald Trump was back on the campaign trail this week in Nevada.

Speaking at a Republican gathering at a restaurant in Las Vegas, Trump spoke on his proposal to eliminate the tax on tips, as well as hitting out at his election opponent, Kamala Harris.

He also thanked his independent rival, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who recently endorsed the Trump campaign and suspended the Kennedy campaign in key states, including Nevada.

The speech at Il Toro E La Capra, a Mexican-Italian fusion restaurant in southwest Las Vegas, was Trump’s first return to Nevada since his narrow escape from a July assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.

The Speech

Trump spoke for half an hour at the Sin City venue. The talk was somewhat more focused than some of his rambling speeches on the campaign trail so far this year.

He focused mainly on his proposal for a tips tax, the ways in which he believes he can appeal to Hispanic American voters, and the shortcomings of Kamala Harris.

Trump’s proposal to eliminate taxes on tips was formulated last time he visited Las Vegas on the campaign trail. Trump said at the time that a cocktail waitress at a Nevada casino suggested the idea to him.

Since suggesting it, in an almost off-the-cuff remark at his last speech in Nevada, the idea has proven popular among many voters. Even Las Vegas’ powerful unions said they backed the proposal, although they made it clear they did not endorse Trump.

Eventually, Harris joined in on the proposal, which would ideally put more money in the pockets of service industry workers in Nevada, who make up some 30% of the workforce.

“Somebody I know just copied it, but that’s not gonna happen…” Trump said to cheers from the assembled crowd.

“People depend on tips for their family, and we’re gonna enact that quickly.”

Campaign Continues

As well as his no-tax-on-tips proposal, Trump promised if he is elected that he would cut energy prices, introduce more charter schools, and be tough on crime.

“We’ll unleash American energy and cut your energy prices in half,” he said.

Outside of that, most of Trump’s speech was given to bashing his Democratic election opponents. He called out Harris, claiming her policies as attorney general of California negatively affected the state, and particularly the city of San Francisco.

“Radical people, really hurting our country,” he said.

“Kamala is promising communist price controls on food. Her plan will cause catastrophic inflation and the restaurant industry will be obliterated. You don’t wanna know, but that’s where they’re headed.”

Trump closed his speech praising the restaurant owner, Javier Barajas, and Kennedy for his recent endorsement.

“If we win Nevada, we’ll win something very special. If we win Nevada, we’ll win the whole thing,” he said.
