Super Bowl Odds for the NFL’s Undefeated Teams

After three weeks, the NFL has five undefeated 3-0 teams. Some of the teams began the season as favorites to win the Super Bowl, and others are just now beginning to get attention.

Kansas City Chiefs (+450)

Going back to last season, the Kansas City Chiefs have won nine straight games, including their first three this season. But the Super Bowl betting favorite is living dangerously. In the last six of those nine wins, they have won the game by a single possession, beating the Atlanta Falcons this week with a fourth-and-one stop at their own 13-yard line.

One of the biggest challenges over the years for teams trying to win a third-straight Super Bowl is boredom. Patrick Mahomes looks off, the Chiefs look like a team trying to find a challenge, and they look like a team playing in the preseason. What is scary for the rest of the league is that despite all of that, they keep winning.

Buffalo Bills (+800)

While the Chiefs have seemingly sleepwalked their way to a 3-0 record, the Buffalo Bills have bulldozed their opponents. There are no one-possession games that come down to one or two plays when the Bills and Josh Allen are playing. Minus the first two quarters of the season, when they trailed the Arizona Cardinals 17-10, it has been all Buffalo. In the 10 quarters since that halftime deficit, the Bills have outscored their opponents, 102-31.

The 112 points for the Bills leads the NFL. Their +64 point differential leads the NFL, and Josh Allen is leading the early MVP race, now the betting favorite at +200 over Mahomes, who is +300.

Minnesota Vikings (+2500)

Other than difficult games to begin the season – the Chiefs played the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals, and the Bills were at the Miami Dolphins – those teams aren’t big surprises at 3-0. You can’t say the same for the Minnesota Vikings, who began this year as the predicted last-place finisher in the NFC North.

Rookie J.J. McCarthy was the starting quarterback until he tore his meniscus, and the Vikings were supposed to be cooked even further with Sam Darnold as their starter. Instead, the Vikings are 3-0, with huge wins over the San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans, and the win over the Texans was a 34-7 blowout.

Darnold, the supposed liability, leads the NFL with eight touchdown passes, and defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who has a complicated past as a head coach with the Miami Dolphins, has his defense playing like a top-five unit.

When the season began, the Vikings were +8000 to win the Super Bowl, and those odds are now down to +2500.

Pittsburgh Steelers (+3500)

The Pittsburgh Steelers began the season at +5000 to win the Super Bowl based off their good defense. Through three weeks, that defense has been spectacular, and T.J. Watt looks the favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year at +250.

The quarterback situation is supposed to hold this team back. It might still do that, but right now, Justin Fields is playing like a legitimate NFL starting quarterback. The first two weeks were baby steps toward relevancy. But in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers, he threw for 245 yards and a touchdown, and ran for another touchdown.

Fields is technically the backup, only playing because of a calf injury to Russell Wilson. But with the Steelers unbeaten and the only team in the AFC North with a winning record, it’s hard to imagine head coach Mike Tomlin making a change anytime soon.

Seattle Seahawks (+4000)

The last of the unbeatens are the Seattle Seahawks, and according to oddsmakers, they are the least likely of the 3-0 teams to win the Super Bowl.

Seattle beat Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix in Week 1, the New England Patriots and QB Jacoby Brissett in Week 2, and the Miami Dolphins and a quarterback combination of Skylar Thompson and Tim Boyle in Week 3. So it’s hard to know just how good the Seahawks are, considering the teams and quarterbacks they have beaten.

They also play in a division with the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams, and an improved Arizona Cardinals offense. But at least through three weeks, Seattle is the class of the division, and they have gone from +175 to make the playoffs in the preseason to -150 now.
