NHL’s Frozen Frenzy Returns Tuesday with All 32 Teams in Action

The NFL has its Red Zone, where “seven hours of commercial-free football starts now.” The NHL has a similar version with the Frozen Frenzy, which happens one night a year and features nearly eight hours of hockey, albeit with commercials.

It begins on Tuesday with the Washington Capitals at the Philadelphia Flyers at 6:00 p.m. ET, ends with the Los Angeles Kings at the Vegas Golden Knights at 11:00 p.m. ET, with the start times of the other 14 games staggered in-between in 15 minute intervals.

If you love hockey, this is the night for you. Even if you only have a mild interest in hockey, this is the night for you. And if you love sports betting, start setting up your screens right now. The puck drops in just a few.

Washington Capitals (-105) at Philadelphia Flyers (-115)

The Flyers are off to a rough start on the season, sitting in last place in the Metropolitan Division at 1-3-1. They were most recently shut out at home by the Vancouver Canucks. Tuesday’s task doesn’t appear to be much easier, as the Capitals are 3-1-0 and have Tom Wilson off to a blistering start, with five goals in four games.

The top matchup to watch in this game is rookie forward Matvei Michkov, the favorite to win the Calder Trophy (Rookie of the Year), against his hero and fellow Russian, Alex Ovechkin. Michkov called it “an honor” to be on the ice with Ovechkin.

Minnesota Wild (+124) at Florida Panthers (-148)

The Florida Panthers are the defending Stanley Cup Champions (they are paying +1000 to repeat). But the Minnesota Wild is off to a better start to the season at 3-0-2.

The Wild missed the playoffs a year ago and haven’t been getting much postseason betting buzz, paying +4000 to win the Stanley Cup, so it’s hard to know if this start is for real. One way to find out is to play the defending champions at one of the hardest arenas to get a road win.

Dallas Stars (-155) at Buffalo Sabres (+130)

The Dallas Stars made it to the Conference Finals last year. They are tied for the second betting favorite to win this year’s Stanley Cup at +900, and they are playing every bit like one of the true contenders. The Stars are 5-1-0 and have a goal differential of +9, which ranks second in the Western Conference.

The Buffalo Sabres, on the other hand, have missed the playoffs for 13 straight seasons, the longest such drought in NHL history, and are tied for the longest current post-season drought in North American professional sports with the NFL’s New York Jets.

Buffalo is 2-4-1, and staring at 14 straight years out of the post-season if they can’t start stacking some wins.

New York Rangers (-225) at Montreal Canadiens (+185)

One of the top betting favorites to win the Stanley Cup are the New York Rangers, paying +1000. They are also the second biggest favorite on Tuesday, paying -225 for their visit to the Montreal Canadiens.

There is a lot to like about the Canadiens… for the future. This team is exciting, but this team is also very young, and is currently 2-3-1. The Rangers are 4-0-1 and have Artemi Panarin playing like a potential MVP. He is tied for the NHL lead with 12 points, and his six goals ranks him second. He is currently paying +1400 to win the Hart Trophy, given annually to the league MVP. That ranks him behind Connor McDavid, Nikita Kucherov, Nathan MacKinnon, and Auston Matthews.

Carolina Hurricanes (+110) at Edmonton Oilers (-130)

Speaking of Connor McDavid: the betting favorite to win the Hart Trophy can be seen at home against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Oilers came one game short in the Stanley Cup Finals in June, and this is a team on a mission that hasn’t yet launched. Edmonton is your current Stanley Cup favorite at +800, and they are paying +350 to win the Western Conference Playoffs, narrowly edging the Stars, who are at +375. But Edmonton has also lost four of its six played games, and they are an abysmal -12 in goal differential. Only two teams in the NHL are worse.

We expect the Oilers to turn things around, and the oddsmakers expect it to begin on Tuesday night.

Los Angeles Kings (+130) at Vegas Golden Knights (-155)

The final game of the night takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, as the L.A. Kings visit the Golden Knights, with a late 8:00 p.m. local time start.

The Golden Knights were first-round playoff losers last year, one year after winning the Stanley Cup, and they are -320 to get back to the playoffs this season. In their seven years of existence, they have been a playoff participant six times.

The Kings have lost to the Oilers in the first round of the playoffs in each of the last three years, and they are -220 to make the playoffs again in 2025. And they will do anything to avoid yet another series with Edmonton.

Other Tuesday Games

In the other Tuesday games, the Tampa Bay Lightning (+136) are at the New Jersey Devils (-162). The Toronto Maple Leafs (-225) visit the Columbus Blue Jackets (+185), and the Detroit Red Wings (+130) are at the New York Islanders (-155).

The Winnipeg Jets (-155) lead the Western Conference with a 5-0 record, and they are at the St. Louis Blues (+130). The Vancouver Canucks (-180) are at the Chicago Blackhawks (+150). The Colorado Avalanche (-122) are at the Seattle Kraken (+102), the Boston Bruins (+105) visit the Nashville Predators (-125), the Ottawa Senators (+105) visit the Utah Hockey Club (-125), the Pittsburgh Penguins (-110) are at the Calgary Flames (-110), and the San Jose Sharks (+145) head down the coast to play the Anaheim Ducks (-175).
