The biggest game of the NFL weekend is the Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills, and CBS Sports doesn’t want you to miss any of its stories. Normally, sending “The NFL Today” crew on the road is reserved for conference championship games and the Super Bowl. But this Sunday, the in-studio crew will be out of the studio and at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York to bring you its pregame show.
CBS is hoping that the Chiefs and Bills will be the most-watched regular season game of the year, topping the 29.2 million that watched the season-opener at Arrowhead Stadium between the Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens. To help make that happen, the Chiefs and Bills kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET, and it is the only CBS game in the late afternoon window.
Must-Win for Bills
The Bills are within a couple of weeks of clinching the AFC East, and the only real thing left for them to play for is the AFC’s No. 1 seed. A win on Sunday, and they would be 9-2 heading into their bye week, and trail Kansas City by just a half-game. Plus, they would own the ever-important tiebreaker over the Chiefs, making it even more likely that they would finish the regular season as the AFC’s best.
Kansas City still has a path to the No. 1 seed with a loss, but a win almost guarantees it. A victory on Sunday moves the Chiefs to 10-0, two and a half games ahead of Buffalo, which essentially becomes three and half games because of the head-to-head tiebreaker. KC already owns the tiebreaker over the Baltimore Ravens, and they will get a chance to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.
A loss for Buffalo, and it will be next to impossible for them to catch the Chiefs. Kansas City still has games with the Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland Browns, and Carolina Panthers. The Bills still have games with the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers.
Kansas City is +180 to win the AFC Championship Game, while Buffalo is currently third on the odds board at +390. The Chiefs are paying +600 to finish the regular season 17-0.
Bills-Chiefs History
Not only does this game mean everything to the Bills for this season, they have multiple scores to settle from years past.
The teams played in the regular season in 2021, 2023, and 2023, and the Bills won all three. But the last three times they have played in the postseason, the Chiefs were the winner. In the last four years, the Bills have been division champions and winners in the Wild Card round in each postseason. Three of those four postseason runs were ended by the Chiefs, including the 2020 season AFC Championship Game, 38-24, the Divisional Round following the 2021 season, 42-36, and in the Divisional Round last year in Buffalo, 27-24.
For this Sunday’s meeting in Buffalo, the Bills are two-point favorites.
