NFL: Betting Odds for the Next Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach

After surviving Black Monday, the traditional day for firing head coaches at the end of the regular season, Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce was relieved of his duties on Tuesday.

One of the top priorities this off-season for Raiders general manager Tom Telesco, who survives for another year, is to find a quarterback. Pierce was saddled with Gardner Minshew, Aidan O’Connell, and Desmond Ridder, and never really had a chance to win in Las Vegas. A new coach is going to have one simple demand: give me a competent quarterback.

Next Raiders Head Coach Odds

Kellen Moore (+400)

The current offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles has risen quickly through the NFL assistant coaching ranks. Kellen Moore was the Dallas Cowboys quarterback coach in 2018, the year after his playing career ended, and by the next season, he was their offensive coordinator.

He was the offensive coordinator last season with the Los Angeles Chargers, and he has been in charge of the Eagles seventh-ranked scoring offense this season.

Moore has been talked about as a future head coach for a couple of years, and the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints have already requested an interview with Moore for their open head coaching positions.

Liam Coen (+450)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen is on the odds board for the New England Patriots head coaching job, and in Las Vegas, he’s one of the favorites. The Raiders are going to lean toward the offense, in contrast to Antonio Pierce’s history in the defensive side of the ball, and Coen is one of the hot candidates.

Like with Moore, Coen is currently preparing for the Wild Card Round, and it will be until after the Divisional Round before he can take official interviews. Coen says he does want to be a head coach at some point, but it’s okay if it doesn’t happen this off-season.

Deion Sanders (+500)

Who is better suited for the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas than a head coach who is a P.T. Barnum-esque showman? Raiders owner Mark Davis loves big moves, and none would be bigger than hiring Deion Sanders away from Colorado and making Coach Prime the face of his organization.

The Raiders appear to have dropped themselves out of the Shedeur Sanders sweepstakes by winning too many games at the end of the season. But the elder Sanders has said he will try to dictate where the younger Sanders is drafted, and perhaps he could convince the rest of the NFL to make it a Raider-two-for, with him as the new head coach, and his son as the No. 6 overall pick and new quarterback.

Mike McCarthy (+750)

The Chicago Bears requested an interview with Mike McCarthy, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said no. McCarthy is still under contract with the Cowboys until January 14, and Jones says he still hasn’t decided to make a change.

McCarthy says he wants to stay in Dallas, but had Jones really wanted him, one would think that a new contract would already be on the table. Since it isn’t, there’s a good chance the former Super Bowl champion head coach will be looking for another job in a week, and the Raiders would be high on his list. And even as quirky as Mark Davis is as the Raiders owner, McCarthy is inured to anything that comes from the owners suite after five years of working for Jones.

Pete Carroll (+850)

Former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is 73-years-old and headed to the Hall of Fame. In Las Vegas, nothing is better than a sure thing, and with 139 career wins and a Super Bowl title, Carroll is that. He may not fill the position for long, but he will fill it as a proven winner.

The Raiders exist in a division where all three other teams made the playoffs this season, and they haven’t won a playoff game in more than 20 years. Opting for a safe pick like Carroll might be the best pick.

Carroll has made it clear that he wants to return to coaching, and he’s interviewing this week with the Chicago Bears.
