Las Vegas Raiders: Betting on the 2024 Season

Losing any player for the season during training camp is hard on a team. Losing one to retirement less than two months after signing is hard and surprising. That is what happened to the Las Vegas Raiders this week, when former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup walked away from football.

The 28-year-old Gallup announced his retirement, and general manager Tom Telesco admitted, “I didn’t see that coming at all.”

Keeping up in the AFC was already going to be tough for the Raiders, and now they go into the 2024 season with even less depth at wide receiver.

Las Vegas Postseason Odds

The Raiders moved to Las Vegas in 2020, and even though Allegiant Stadium has hosted a postseason game since then, the Raiders have yet to treat Las Vegas fans to the playoffs. Making matters worse, that postseason game at Allegiant Stadium was a Super Bowl championship won by their hated rival, the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Raiders streak of futility is unlikely to end, with a bet on them to make the playoffs currently paying +300. In the AFC, only the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, and Tennessee Titans have longer odds.

The Raiders are well down the list on winning the conference, paying +6000, and they are Super Bowl champion longshots at +10000.

Offensive Award Odds

One of the most exciting players in the 2024 NFL Draft was Georgia tight end Brock Bowers, and he was taken by the Raiders with the 13th overall pick. He will team with second-year tight end Michael Mayer to give Las Vegas the best young tight end tandem in the NFL, and Bowers is paying +4000 to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The best player on the Raiders offense remains wide receiver Davante Adams. However, with the loss of Josh Jacobs at running back and the question marks at quarterback, Adams is only +5000 to win Offensive Player of the Year.

Last season, the Raiders ranked 23rd in points scored and 27th in total yards, and not much was done this off-season to improve on those numbers.

Defensive Award Odds

The Raiders defense in 2023 was actually quite good, ranking ninth in points allowed. They also have one of the leading candidates for Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) in Maxx Crosby. Last season, the two-time 2nd-team All-Pro had 14.5 sacks and 31 QB hits, and he is paying +700 to win DPOY in 2024.

Free agent defensive tackle Christian Wilkins was the Raiders big off-season addition, and he is paying +15000 to win DPOY. Tyree Wilson was a disappointment as a top-10 pick in 2023, but he played his best football late in the season, and there is optimism that he will make a jump in 2024. He’s paying +30000 to win DPOY.

The Raiders didn’t pick any defensive players until late in the 2024 NFL Draft, and fifth-round pick Tommy Eichenburg is +12000 to win Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Antonio Pierce beat all three AFC West rivals at the end of the 2023 season, taking him from interim head coach to full-time head coach. In 2024, he is paying +2000 to win Coach of the Year.
