Las Vegas Jackpot Roundup: $1.7M Poker Win and More

The last 30 days have been big for poker jackpots in Las Vegas. Collectively, Sin City card players have hit nearly $2 million in progressive poker jackpots over this time, scoring some of the rarest hands in the game.

It all started in early September, when one player at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas hit a 7-card straight flush while playing Pai Gow Poker, winning $1.6 million.

Then, late in September, a player at the Golden Nugget hit a five card royal flush for $139,789. It is the rarest hand in standard five card poker.

We’re not done yet, however, as in early October, another player hit a 7-card straight flush playing Pai Gow Poker at Boyd Gaming’s Suncoast property.

During this 30-day period, several other notably big jackpots hit on Las Vegas slot machines, including a $516K winner at the Emerald Island in Henderson. That’s as well as dozens of $10K to $50K winners at various properties.

Rare Poker Hands

The biggest win of the past month in Las Vegas was not, as usual, a slot machine.

The biggest hit was from a game of Pai Gow Poker at Planet Hollywood. A visitor from Omaha, Nebraska, who gave his name only as Scott, was visiting Las Vegas to watch his favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs, play the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL’s opening game at the city’s Allegiant Stadium.

The day before the game, he decided to hit Planet Hollywood Casino and play some poker. That was a fortuitous choice, as around 90 minutes after sitting down at the table to play, Scott was dealt a 7-card straight flush – triggering the casino’s $1.6 million progressive poker jackpot.

The Chiefs also won, narrowly beating the Ravens, 20-17. Scott’s first reaction after winning the jackpot was a wholesome one, saying his first thought was to call his wife and tell her the good news.

At odds of 0.0279%, you might think that it would be a while before a hand like this happened again. As far as we could tell, the last time someone hit a 7-card straight flush jackpot in Las Vegas was back in February 2024.

However, Lady Luck was not done just yet. Just this past Saturday, October 5, a Las Vegas local named Richard drew a 7-card straight flush playing Pai Gow Poker at the Suncoast Casino, located just off the Las Vegas Strip.

The Suncoast’s jackpot is not as generous as the Caesars Entertainment-owned Planet Hollywood, but it still paid $259,850 to the lucky visitor. The progressive jackpot then reset to $75,075.

In between those big wins, another player hit the rarest hand in five card poker at the Golden Nugget Las Vegas in downtown. After being dealt an ace, king, queen, jack and 10 of hearts from the deck, the lucky player walked away with a $139,789 jackpot.

Of course, as big as poker jackpots can get, none of them will be as big as the prizes at the biggest professional poker tournaments, such as the $10 million claimed by Jonathan Tamayo earlier this year. He claimed the sum for winning first place at the World Series of Poker Main Event 2024 at the Horseshoe Las Vegas.
