While no one has gone on a sensational $1.617 million jackpot winning spree like this Caesars Palace player earlier this year, June, July, and August so far have seen their fair share of big prizes in Sin City.
The big wins in recent weeks include the largest Pai Gow jackpot ever paid out by one casino, a $2.1 million jackpot won from a $3 final bet, and a Hawaiian tourist who won $890K from a $1 dollar bet.
Two hefty bingo jackpots also paid out at local casinos, as did a $1.9 million win in the high limit slot room at the Encore. Plus, in early July, the Mirage Las Vegas paid out $1.6 million in jackpots that it owed the players of Nevada before it closed for good.
Jackpot Season
The first two big winners in Las Vegas for July came in the middle of the month. On July 16, an international visitor, who chose to remain anonymous, scooped a $1.935 million jackpot at the Wynn Resorts casinos Encore Las Vegas.
The guest was playing a Buffalo Power Pay slot in the luxury resort’s high limit room. They hit the nearly $2 million prize at 1.45 a.m. on a $60 spin.
The very next day, a local Las Vegas man hit a cool $517,439 jackpot while playing Ultimate Texas Hold’em poker at Caesars Palace. He hit a Royal Flush, the rarest hand in the game, triggering the progressive jackpot prize.
Prentice B, a Las Vegas local, said he planned to take care of his parents’ housing and retirement with his winnings.
Just a week later, on July 23, a second table game jackpot on the Las Vegas Strip would eclipse Prentice’s win. A player at the Venetian put a $5 side bet on Face Up Pai Gow when they hit a seven card straight flush. That was a decision that won them $2.21 million. It was the largest Pai Gow Jackpot that the Venetian has paid out in nearly two decades of running the progressive pool.
Elsewhere in Las Vegas, that same weekend on July 23, a player was down to their last $3 slot spin at the Palms – until they weren’t. The very final spin of the player’s session hit a $2.1 million Wheel of Fortune Jackpot.
August So Far
Heading into August, there have been three big jackpots already in Sin City.
On August 8, a visitor from Hawaii hit a $891K jackpot on a Wheel of Fortune slot machine at The California casino in Downtown Las Vegas.
On August 9 two players hit big prizes at a less-glitzy, but still popular, game of bingo. The Palace Station locals-oriented casino paid out a $159,791 win on its Jumbo Bingo progressive jackpot in the late afternoon. Later that night, another guest covered all 48 numbers on the bingo board, hitting $64,396 for their troubles.
Elsewhere in the U.S. in recent weeks, one man walked into a casino for the first time – and came out $1.5 million richer. The unnamed visitor to New Jersey strolled into Hard Rock Atlantic City, completely new to the casino experience and with $100 burning a hole in his pocket. Then he promptly hit a $1.5 million jackpot on Wheel of Fortune, from a $10 bet.
