In the latest renderings of the planned ballpark on the site of the old Tropicana published by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the new home of the Las Vegas Athletics will feature two hotel towers, a 90,000-square-foot casino, 110,000 square feet of meeting space, and room for 33,000 baseball fans.
The ballpark’s capacity is broken down into 30,000 actual seats, and room for an additional 3,000 standing room only tickets. Games will be considered “sold out” when 29,400 fans are in attendance, or when 98% capacity has been reached.
Parking on the Strip
One of the biggest questions regarding a newly constructed ballpark on the strip, and sandwiched into the relatively small 35-acre site along with a hotel and casino, is parking. Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders NFL team, has just 2,200 on-site parking spots, and it is off the Strip.
The yet-to-be-named ballpark will feature a 2,500-space parking garage on the southwest corner of the development. There will also need to be an additional 4,400 off-site parking spaces to accommodate a sold-out crowd. That includes 1,500 parking spaces for ballpark employees.
The plan submitted to Clark County references 10 other parking structures nearby and a total of 43,920 parking spaces that are either within walking distance of the new ballpark or just a short shuttle ride away. The bulk of those parking spaces are located on six MGM properties.
Developers also point to taxi and rideshare services, the currently under construction Las Vegas Convention Center Loop, and the Regional Transportation Commissions bus system as ways of getting to the ballpark.
It is estimated that nearly 10,000 fans will walk to the ballpark from surrounding garages and hotels.
Building Phases
Because the A’s are now out of Oakland and living temporarily in Sacramento, the ballpark is the most important part of the complex to get finished. The first phase of the building plan is to complete the ballpark and parking garage so the A’s can begin play in Las Vegas no later than 2028.
The A’s agreement with the Sacramento River Cats does include an option for the 2028 season, should there be construction delays. But Sutter Health Park has a capacity of just 14,014, and the A’s want to move into their new and much larger home as soon as possible.
The ballpark is expected to be finished in time for Opening Day 2028, and then the remainder of the resort will be constructed in three separate phases, beginning first with a 495-foot hotel tower, and ending with a second tower on the other side of the park. The tallest of the hotel towers includes 33 guest room levels and three suite levels. The resort will have a total of 3,000 rooms.
There are also plans for a 250-foot video tower at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue. For reference, the Sphere in Las Vegas is 366 feet high.
Nothing has been decided yet, as the plans for the remainder of the resort remain unfinished. But according to Bally’s Corporation Chairman Soo Kim, the plan is to make it a sports-themed resort. Kim confirmed that “Bally’s World of Sports” is a potential leading candidate.
