An eventful and controversial off-season for Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has ended with him becoming the highest-paid kicker in the NFL. On Monday, Butker and the Chiefs agreed on a four-year, $25.6 million contract, with $17.75 million in contract guarantees.
Last season, Butker was 33 of 35 on field goal attempts, and in Super Bowl LVIII he made four field goals, including a Super Bowl record 57-yarder. Butker also kicked the game-winning field goal in Super Bowl LVII.
Butker is one of the best kickers in the NFL, but he’s now a household name because of a commencement address he gave back in May at Benedictine College in Kansas. In that speech, he said most of the women receiving degrees were more excited about the prospects of getting married and having children.
Kansas City Postseason Odds
Butker has never missed the playoffs in his seven seasons with the Chiefs, and the Chiefs are looking to extend their AFC West championship streak to nine years. The Chiefs last failed to win the division in 2015, and they last missed the playoffs in 2014.
Kansas City is -600 to make the playoffs and -230 to win the division. They are the betting favorites to win the AFC again, paying +300. Not one of the great dynasties of the past was able to win three straight Super Bowls, but the Chiefs are +500 favorites to do just that.
The over/under on Kansas City regular season wins is 11.5.
Offensive Award Odds
This team’s fate rides on the play of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and it’s a pretty good place to be. He’s a two-time MVP, and he is the betting favorite to win a third, paying +475. He is also the favorite to lead the NFL in passing yards (+500), the favorite to lead the league in passing touchdowns (+650), and his over/under on passing yards is 4,350.5.
If Mahomes gets to 4,500.5, the bet pays as much as +195. He’s gone over that total in four of his six seasons as the starter. A 5,000 yard season pays +550.
One of the reasons to be bullish about Mahomes in 2024 is the improved wide receiving corps he’s throwing to. The Chiefs drafted Xavier Worthy out of Texas, and the fastest man in the history of the scouting combine is +2500 to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Last year’s rookie receiving leader for the Chiefs was Rashee Rice, and he is paying +20000 to win Offensive Player of the Year. Hollywood Brown became a Chief this off-season, and he is paying +12000 to win Offensive Player of the Year.
The Chiefs also have a pretty good tight end in Travis Kelce, and he is +10000 to win OPOY. Running back Isiah Pacheco is +7500.
Defensive Award Odds
Defensive tackle Chris Jones was given a big contract extension this off-season, and he is +3000 to win Defensive Player of the Year. You get +550 on Jones to get more than 15 sacks this season, and he is +2000 to lead the NFL in sacks.
Defensive end George Karlaftis is +7500 to win Defensive Player of the Year and +5000 to lead the NFL in sacks. Last year, he finished with 10.5 sacks.
Cornerback Trent McDuffie was a First-Team All-Pro last season, and he is +10000 to win DPOY. He’s at +155 to have two or more interceptions this season.
Linebacker Nick Bolton is +12000 to win Defensive Player of the Year, and he is +1500 to lead the NFL in combined tackles. Last year, he had just 60 combined tackles in eight games. But in 2022, he played all 17 games and had 180 combined tackles.
Andy Reid is the winningest active head coach, and the only coach in history to win at least 100 games with two different teams. But he is a longshot to win Coach of the Year at +5000.
