Someday soon, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is going to be a very rich man. He’s currently in the midst of a training camp “hold-in” as he and the Packers work out the final details on what is expected to be the latest contract to become the biggest in the NFL. He’s at camp and attending all meetings, but until the new contract has been signed, he will not practice.
Love has started only 18 games in his young career, but he was arguably the best quarterback down the stretch last season. He is the reason that fans in Green Bay and NFL bettors are so optimistic about this season.
Green Bay Postseason Odds
Last season, the Packers were a playoff team, beating the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card. The next week, they narrowly lost to the eventual NFC champion San Francisco 49ers. Nearly everyone expects the Packers to be back in the postseason. They are paying -155 to be a playoff team come January.
The Detroit Lions (+150) are still the betting favorite in the NFC North, but the Packers are the second best bet to win the division at +210. The new look Chicago Bears are paying +265, and the Minnesota Vikings are a distant fourth at +1000.
The Packers haven’t won the NFC since 2010. But if this is the year they get back into the Super Bowl, that NFC Championship Game win will pay +800. That ranks them behind the 49ers (+250), Lions (+550), Philadelphia Eagles (+700), and Cowboys (+700).
A win in Super Bowl LIX is currently paying +1900. For comparison, former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his New York Jets are listed at +2000.
Offensive Award Odds
Josh Jacobs is just two years removed from an Offensive Player of the Year (OPOY)-worthy season. He rushed for 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns, and added another 400 yards receiving. He finished fifth in OPOY voting in 2022, but fell completely out of the conversation in 2023.
Jacobs is back in a great offense, and don’t be surprised if he sees a return to his 2022 effectiveness. He also presents great value on an OPOY bet, paying +12000. That ties him with Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed, who last year as a rookie caught 64 passes for 793 yards and a team-high eight touchdowns.
Much further down the list is wide receiver Romeo Doubs at +25000.
The real driver of the offense is Love, and as one of the elite quarterbacks in the league, he is paying +1400 to win the MVP award. That ties him with last year’s MVP, Lamar Jackson, who is also at +1400.
Defensive Award Odds
In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Packers used their top pick on offensive tackle Jordan Morgan, and in the second round, they grabbed Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper. He was the 45th player taken overall, but he is 14th on the odds board for Defensive Rookie of the Year, paying +3500. The last time the Pack had the Defensive Rookie of the Year was 1972, when cornerback Willie Buchanon won the award.
Thanks to Charles Woodson and Reggie White, Packers fans are no stranger to seeing a Defensive Player of the Year wearing the green and gold. If it is going to happen for a third Green Bay Packer, the most likely candidate is Rashan Gary. He is the top Packer on the odds board at +5000. Last year, the defensive end finished with nine sacks.
Also rushing the passer is second-year pro Lukas Van Ness, the 13th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He was only a rotational player last year, but his snap count should go way up in 2024, as will his sack numbers. He had four in 2023. He’s way down the list at +15000 to win DPOY, but Van Ness is a defensive Packer to watch.
Cornerback Jaire Alexander played just seven games in 2023, which has him flying a little under the radar at +10000. In 2022, he was fully healthy, and he had five interceptions and his second All-Pro nod.
