The final table of the World Series of Poker Main Event 2024 has begun in Las Vegas, with all nine players set to receive at least a $1 million share of the $31.75 million final table prize pool.
Notably, the final table features several players chasing their first WSOP bracelets at the main event. It doesn’t host a single former Main Event winner. The lineup does include World Poker Tour player of the year for 2023 Joe Serock, and online poker legend Niklas Astedt.
A million-dollar-plus cash would comfortably be the biggest of their poker careers for all nine players. The final victor will bag $10 million for their troubles, with second place getting a not-so-bad consolation prize of $6 million.
The Players
The final players and their chip standings going into day 10 were as follows:
- Jordan Griff – 143,700,000 chips
- Brian Kim – 94,600,000 chips
- Niklas Astedt – 94,200,000 chips
- Joe Serock – 83,600,000 chips
- Jason Sagle – 67,300,000 chips
- Boris Angelov – 52,900,000 chips
- Jonathan Tamayo – 26,700,000 chips
- Malo Latinois – 25,500,000 chips
- Andres Gonzalez: 18,300,000 chips
Initially 10,112 players entered the record-breaking World Series of Poker Main Event 2024, held at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas casinos.
The previous highest-place finish for any player on this list at the WSOP Main Event was Brian Kim, who finished 23rd in 2023.
The leader going into day 8 of the tournament was Jordan Griff of Scottsdale, Arizona. The supply chain manager, 30, had a previous cash best of $18,000, although he has been playing cash games for a decade.
The Schedule
The final table will run from July 16 to July 17, with five of the nine players due to go out on the 16th. The final nine had a day’s break on Monday to prepare for the big finale.
The grueling event began on July 3, taking over two weeks to whittle down from 10,000 players to just one winner. Although final table entrant Astedt had something to say about that.
“Piece of cake compared to SCOOP [Spring Championship of Online Poker],” said the Swedish online tournament legend.
“People say this is a marathon. They should try 20 tables for 40 days during SCOOP. That’s what I say.”
During the two-week tournament so far, a dozen other high-limit tournaments were also played, various record-chasing long-time poker pros were sent to the rail, and one player had a heart attack overnight before returning to the felt.
