Drake Loses a $300K Bet on Copa America Soccer Game, Trolled by Argentina Team

Global music megastar Drake lost $300K betting on his native Canada to beat Argentina in this week’s Copa America semi- final. To hammer home their win and the rapper’s loss, the Argentina team went on to mock him on social media, referencing Drake’s recent and highly publicized rap beef with Kendrick Lamar.

The Argentines came out comfortable 2-0 winners of the match, with goals from Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi.

The social media world would have most likely already mocked Drake for the continuation of his so-called betting curse. The multimillionaire performer has a penchant for massive sports bets placed through his preferred offshore cryptocurrency sportsbook, Stake.com.

However, the official Argentina soccer team social media account ratcheted it up a notch after the game. The team posted a picture of the victorious post-match huddle, captioned “Not like us, not with us” – a not-so-subtle reference to the unlikely smash hit diss track by Lamar.

Not Like Us has some 500 million Spotify plays, plus 50 million and counting on YouTube. It has also seen whole arenas singing along to lyrics that accuse Drake of (among other things) having a gambling problem and a proclivity for relationships with much younger women.

Drake’s Loss

The rap star posted news of his latest big bet on social media, posting a picture of his Stake.com receipt for a $300,000 wager. He captioned it “could get Messi” in reference to the Argentinian soccer star.

Canada had odds of 9.60 (+860 on the moneyline) to win the match at the time of the bet, according to the receipt. That would have paid out Drake a cool $2.88 million if they had pulled off the unlikely win.

The heavily favored Argentina has defied Drake’s curse before, winning the 2022 World Cup after he placed a $1 million bet on them. However, Drake’s bet was on them to win in regular time, and the match went to a penalty shootout, meaning his bet was a loss.

Argentina’s Win

As well as losing $300K, Drake was taunted by the Argentina team for backing their opponents. The team even tagged Lamar in the posts referencing his hit diss track.

Drake’s seven-for-seven tracks beef with the California-based Lamar was widely seen by social media and music press as a wipe-out defeat for the Canadian. This was all but cemented in pop culture history when the uncompromising and vitriolic Not Like Us caught genuine mass appeal, becoming one of the unlikeliest smash music hits of recent years.

Meanwhile, the number one soccer team in the FIFA World rankings is now looking to another final. Messi and company will be aiming for a historic 16th Copa America trophy when they face either Uruguay or Colombia.

Drake may be tempted to back Canada again in the third-place playoff later this week against either of the above two teams. That’s although his home country will once again be heavy underdogs against either South American nation.

One more successful gambler connected to the Copa America is Brazilian star Neymar. The former finalist with Brazil missed out on the 2024 tournament because of injury. However he found time to recently win $300K playing poker in Los Angeles with various other celebrities on the Hustler Casino Live stream platform.
